Mark your calendars—September 5th is Labor Day 2016. This holiday was first created to celebrate the working class, including the social and economic achievements of hard working Americans. As you gear up for your relaxing weekend, these Labor Day ideas can help take the work out of planning your event.

According to DIY Joy, there are a number of “hacks” that are great for a family get-together. One great tip is to use frozen water balloons to keep your coolers cold. Simply fill water balloons like normal and place them in the freezer a day or two before your celebration. Not only is it less messy than ordinary ice, but these balloons will also add some flair to your party.

Looking for a theme? Try leftover 4th of July decorations. Don’t forget, Labor Day is for the American working class, which means red, white, and blue streamers, plates, and napkins are the perfect addition. Plus, you can usually get these decorations for a steal because they’re on clearance after Independence Day.

Do you have picky eaters? Make mac ‘n cheese muffins! Simply put mac and cheese into cupcake tins and sprinkle with cheese and breadcrumbs. These tasty treats resemble fancy hors d’oeuvres but are cheap and easy to make.

Finally, plan family time. Labor Day is a break from the daily grind, which is why it’s important to spend the day with family and friends. Nothing is more rewarding than spending time with people who are close to you, and we hope these Labor Day ideas help you make this holiday a memorable one.
