Chevrolet will be adding a new member to its family in the fall: the 2014 Chevrolet SS, which will be the automaker’s first rear-wheel-drive sedan in nearly twenty years. While the 2014 SS’s product page touts the model’s performance and its participation in the NASCA Sprint Cup Series, we here at Fred Caldwell Chevrolet would like to focus on the performance vehicle’s potential as family vehicle with a powerful twist.
While muscular and fearsome on the outside, the 2014 Chevrolet SS boasts “luxurious space, comfort and convenience for up to five adults,” which makes the SS an ideal choice for a larger family. The addition of standard equipment and features such as Automatic Parking Assists, Forward Collision Alert, StabiliTrak®, and Rear Vision Camera with Rear Cross Traffic Alert ensure that the 2014 Chevy SS provides the safety you demand from your sedan. The coupling of the 6.2L V8 engine with the 6-speed automatic transmission for 415 horsepower capability ensures that every muscle-car-aficionado-cum-proud-parent will have their need for speed sated.
What’s more, the 2014 Chevy SS isn’t entirely unfamiliar: as the New York Daily News notes, the 2014 SS is in so many ways the spiritual successor to the Pontiac G8, which has become increasingly more popular since the Pontiac brand went under.
With the 2014 Chevy SS looking to carry on and improve upon that V8 legacy while securing its place as an ideal ride from families everywhere, we’re tempted to liken the addition of the SS to GM and Chevy’s family to that of a recasting in a popular television or film series. Not anything like Dick Sargent taking over for Dick York on Bewitched, though; this looks to be a recast that actually manages to improve on the original formula.
Think the recasting of Catwoman, from Lee Meriwether to Julie Newmar to Eartha Kitt to Michelle Pfeiffer, better and better with each iteration and over several decades (Halle Berry? What are you talking about? We can’t hear you, lah-lah-lah-lah!). The 2014 Chevy SS seems more than capable of some purring of its own, so do yourself a favor and stop in to Fred Caldwell to test drive the next revolution in family performance vehicles when it arrives this fall!
