With a dramatic shift in the automotive market toward consumers placing a priority on fuel efficiency, competition to produce the most efficient vehicles is fierce. Hybrid and electric vehicles are becoming more common, but Chevy has taken a new approach with its 2014 Cruze by offering a diesel variant.
As it turns out, the automaker made a good call, as the 2014 Chevy Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel is returning industry best fuel economy numbers. The EPA has certified that the Cruze Diesel is able to return 46 mpg highway, which is better than any non-hybrid passenger car in America, but the impressive ratings don’t stop there.
The 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel has an estimated highway driving range of 700 miles, which translates to about 10 hours of highway driving without needing to fill up.
“We harnessed generations of diesel expertise to adapt our world-class global engine for the North American market,” said Gary Altman, chief engineer, Chevrolet Cruze Diesel in a press release. “The Cruze Diesel is the best diesel passenger car out there. Chevrolet is redefining the meaning of great fuel economy with this car.”
Don’t think that Chevy merely created a compact with great mpg and no zip. After all, Turbo is right there in the name. The 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel generates a best-in-segment 148 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 2014 Chevy Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel will arrive at Fred Caldwell Chevrolet in Clover, SC early this fall, and we will post availability information online, at http://cloverchevrolet.com/, once it does, so be sure to check back regularly.
